Anthocyanins (2018) is a watercolour painting. When I was asked to include purple for this piece in honour of Epilepsy Australia’s colour, I decided to use a spectrum of various purples, pinks and blues; working in watercolour and allowing the work to be lead by the medium. I allowed the colours to blend and change on the paper creating a mass layering of purple hues. As the work progressed I realised that it looked as though you were looking into a field of purple flowers so I added in some details in the foreground, as if you are looking at a photograph which has only captured the close-up, finer details. This work is titled Anthocyanins as it is the name of the pigment that gives purple flowers their ‘purple’.
