Description

Louise Tate is an emerging artist whose practice explores ideas of historical time, overlapping histories and the relationship between narrative and imagined space within painting. Having recently completed a Bachelor of Fine Art with 1st Class Honours from RMIT University, she currently works from her studio in the industrial arts precinct of Collingwood, VIC.

Louise has exhibited both locally and interstate. Her latest body of work, currently showing at Seventh Gallery in Melbourne (29 March 13 April), juxtaposes imagery of historic colonial architecture, ancient Greek monuments and the rugged landscape of the Macedon region. This work was produced during a six-week residency in Kyneton, a small town in regional Victoria, which was generously awarded to her by The Macfarlane Fund.

Louise has been the recipient of numerous awards and prizes, most recently including the Seventh Emerging Writers Program and the fortyfivedownstairs Emerging Artist Award. She will further be working as an artist in residence at the NARS Foundation in New York next year.
