Martina is a Sydney based multi-disciplinary contemporary abstract expressionist artist who has been involved in the visual arts her entire life.

Along with a formal background in Fine Arts, Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology and Aesthetics from The University of Sydney, followed by post-graduate studies for her Masters, Martina went on to study Gallery Management and attended The Centre for the History of the Decorative Arts before accepting an invitation from Sotheby’s in London and finally, managing and touring with major ‘blockbuster’ exhibitions.

In her painting, Martina uses abstract expressionism as an attitude, whereby the true visual representation of an object is not her solitary consideration. Martina is more importantly concerned with her subconscious and uninhibited emotional response to the stimuli, thereby emphasising an artist’s liberty to convey attitudes and emotions in all its ambiguity and contradiction through non-representational means. It is not about reading the narrative but rather reacting to it. Martina seeks to capture a moment in time, a place or an ambience that holds significance to her and in turn evoke an emotional response from the viewer.

Having been a finalist in numerous art awards and exhibited in solo and group shows, Martina’s work is held by corporate and private collectors both nationally and internationally. Most recently she exhibited in New Orleans, USA and is featured in the current Summer Issue of ART EDIT magazine.
