The collective noun for a group of flamingos is a flamboyance – which is so apt for these birds. In this piece I’ve portrayed five flamingos in various poses- resting preening, eating, stretching. Flamingos are incredible, quirky but elegant looking birds, with striking colour plumage. I am endlessly inspired but their shapes and how they can contort themselves and I really wanted to exaggerate their proportions a little and add to their colours with orange, golds, copper, purple and highlights of turquoise. I wanted to create a really fun piece, with bold strong colours and the fabulous shapes of the flamingos themselves.
