Pennie Pomroy – “Persephone”

Starting bid: $900.00

1 in stock

This work is part of a large series that explores how we find belonging in the land. While several of the larger works are whimsical images of women and animals in the landscape, this smaller piece is all about colour. The title Persephone refers to the Goddess of harvest and fertility. Here she is adorned with the fruits of her floral harvest, they even appear in the detail of her dress.

Description

Pennie Pomroys artworks explore something that is often lost in adult life: a vivid sense of imagination and whimsy. Juxtaposing fantasy with images of times past her sumptuous paintings are reminiscent of the inspired nonsense of Alice in Wonderland evoking an uninhibited expression of youthful exuberance.

Just as Alice herself said, Why sometimes Ive believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast, Pomroy relishes stretching the realms of the possible in her paintings.

A giant playground of animals and people comes to life and revealing the beauty and magic that can be created by simply allowing worlds to be imagined.

Many of the characters in her work are often floating mid-air, adrift, castaway from reality. Each of the paintings asks the viewer to step into another world and let their minds run wild.

Based in Sydney, Pennie has studied both internationally and in Australia, completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (painting) at the National Art School in 2003.
